Stillzy ("we", "us", "the app") lets you and a small group of close friends share short daily video clips and a daily group vlog. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. By using Stillzy you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

Account & identity: phone number (for sign-in via Firebase Phone Authentication), your name, username, profile photo, and an optional birthday (month and day only).
Content you create: short video/photo clips, captions, group chat messages, and stories. This content is shared only with the private groups you choose.
Group data: the groups you join/create and their members.
Device & technical: a push-notification token (to send reminders and group alerts), and basic device/app information needed to operate and secure the service.
Location (only if you turn Nearby on): your device's location, used to show you other Stillzy users nearby. This is off by default and is only read while Nearby is on. If you separately grant background ("Allow all the time" / "Always") location permission, it is also read when the app is closed or not in use; that permission is optional and Nearby works without it. See "Nearby and location" below.

How we use your information

To create your account and sign you in.
To deliver your clips, stories, daily vlog, chat, streaks, and reminders to your groups.
To send push notifications you've enabled (e.g. hourly capture reminders, new clips, chat).
To show you nearby users, if you turn Nearby on.
To keep the service safe and prevent abuse.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Service providers we share data with

We use trusted providers only to run the app. They process data on our behalf:

Google Firebase — phone-number authentication, push delivery (Cloud Messaging), and crash reports (Crashlytics).
Cloudflare R2 — hosting and delivery of your clips, vlogs, chat media and profile photos.
MongoDB Atlas — database storage.
Oracle Cloud — backend server hosting.
Sentry — server error reports. These carry stack traces only, with no request contents and no user identifiers attached.
Giphy — if you search for a GIF, your search term is sent from your device to Giphy to fetch results. We do not store GIF searches.

Data retention

Stories expire automatically after about 24 hours.
Clips are compiled into your daily vlog the same night and then deleted.
Daily vlogs and chat messages (text and media) are kept for about 3 days.
Location for Nearby is kept for up to 8 hours and then deleted automatically. Only your most recent position is stored — never a history of where you have been. Turning Nearby off deletes it immediately.
Your profile and group data are kept while your account is active.
You can delete your account from the app at any time, which removes your profile and associated personal data from our active systems.

Nearby and location

Nearby is an optional feature that shows you other Stillzy users near you. It is off by default. What it does and does not do:

Your location is only ever read while Nearby is on. Turn Nearby off and nothing is read at all.
By default it is read only while the app is open on your screen. Stillzy also asks, separately and once, whether you want to stay on the radar when the app is closed — the "Allow all the time" (Android) or "Always" (iOS) permission. Only if you grant it does Stillzy collect your location when the app is closed or not in use, and it is used for nothing else. It is optional, Nearby works without it, and you can revoke it at any time in your device settings.
Stillzy runs no persistent location tracking and keeps no continuous log. While the app is closed, positions arrive only occasionally, on your device's own schedule.
Only your most recent position is stored, never a trail of where you have been. It is deleted automatically after 8 hours, and turning Nearby off deletes it straight away and removes you from other people's lists.
Other people can see that you were nearby earlier in the day, and it is always labelled as such — "was within 500 m, 5h ago". You are shown as here now only for a few minutes after your last reported position.
Your position is recorded accurately enough to work out which of those two rings you are in, but other users are never shown your exact location, your distance, or your direction — only whether you are within roughly 500 m or 1 km. The positions drawn on the radar are placed at random angles and do not indicate where anyone actually is.
Nearby works both ways: while it is off, you are not visible to anyone and you cannot see anyone either.
You can turn it off at any time in the app, or revoke the location permission in your device settings.

Your choices & rights

Edit your profile or delete individual clips/messages in the app.
Turn notifications on/off in app settings or your device settings.
Turn Nearby (and the location it uses) on or off at any time.
Delete your account to remove your data. For any request, contact us below.

Children

Stillzy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Sign-in uses verified Firebase tokens, group/clip access is permission-checked, and data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest version.
